November 2023 – Notes From The Garden

Wednesday 1st – I’ve been exploring the world of leaf mould, including its preparation, diverse applications, and the advantages it offers to your garden.

I’ve also made the decision to resume cultivating Broccoli Sprouts, and I’ve placed an order for fresh organic sprouting broccoli seeds (calabrese) from Skysprouts.co.uk.

Saturday 4th – No sign of shoots on the ginger plant.

Sunday 5th – Watched an interesting short video from Lucy of SheGrowsVeg explaining the different types of growing medium and her preferred choice.

Monday 6th – I received my November seed bundle from Richard at the VegGrowerPodcast which included Chilli Red Cherry, Coriander Confetti, Green Manure Field Beans, Lettuce Apache, Sprouting Seeds Chickpea and Spring Onion White Lisbon.

Thursday 9th – At last the first ginger shoot has appeared!

I began soaking Broccoli Calabrese seeds in preparation to restart a weekly regiment of growing broccoli sprouts, which we can add to our salads.

Also, collected Ash and Silver Birch leaves from the garden and placed them in an old wheelie bin to create some leaf mould compost.  Hopefully this time next year I should have a nice helping of quality compost to use when sowing seeds.

Friday 10th – I planted four seeds each of both Chilli Pepper Roxi and Chilli Red Cherry, both provided by Richard from VegGrowersPodcast.
